Mayor Kathy Taylor Friendraiser

I ran up the turnpike last night to attend Mayor Kathy Taylor's campaign kickoff event. Wow! Was it worth the drive. Hundreds of people in attendance and all excited about the direction Tulsa is headed.

The Mayor gave a brief speech, but mostly took time to visit with everyone who wanted to chat with her during the evening. It was just another example of why she's been such a strong leader for that great city and why Tulsans would be wise to keep her on the job this November.

It was also fun to see so many friends and catch up on what is going on in Green Country and the 918.

If you haven't had a chance, check out the Taylor campaign site at taylorfortulsa.com and do all you can to help the campaign.

I'm curious to see how that campaign will shape up, given the controversies that have arisen concerning development of downtown Tulsa -- namely, the "ONEOK" Drillers downtown stadium. First, taxing only downtown business properties to pay for the new stadium wasn't too popular with mom and pop stores nearby; and second, the conservative south Tulsans have little interest sprucing up downtown Tulsa, which they believe is only populated by a mix of crack heads and robber barons. Not to mention how Tulsa has let any notion of river development fall by the wayside. Remember the days when folks in Oklahoma thought Tulsa, not Oklahoma City, was the progressive place? Not any more, by a long shot.
